FISH AND SEAFOOD

The fish category is valued at €239.3m or 2.1% of total Irish grocery spend, placing it higher than both lamb (1.1%) and pork (1.1%).  Fish is well known for being incredibly good for the brain as well as being a good source of protein and vitamins. Fish oil tablets are widely sold and consumed as they are full of Omega 3 and have multiple health benefits. Omega 3 which is found in fish oil is known to reduce heart failure and protect against the risk of strokes. It also improves mental health and may ease menstruel pain.  Fresh and frozen fish is far more popular that other types of seafood like shellfish in Ireland than other countries. Thick fillets of fish like trouth and salamon are targets for parasitic roundworms, they are common and grocery stores check most fillets with special lights although they may get through occasionally. If the fish is raw or undercooked these roundworms may lead on too cause aniskakis. Which has side effects of diarraohea, vomitting and stomach
